Donating books

The University of Saskatchewan Library appreciates the interest and goodwill of those who wish to support the development of our collection through the donation of books, journals, and other material from their collections. However, due to the time, effort, and cost of handling potential donations, the USask Library does not normally accept donations of materials for the general collection. We are focusing our acquisitions through donated materials on unique local collections, especially University Archives and Special Collections.

The library is actively seeking donations of the following:

  • Archival collections, rare books, manuscripts and other printed material. Materials relating to supporting the collection mandate of University Archives and Special Collections (UASC), which focuses on including ephemera and memorabilia relating to the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan, and published materials relating to Western Canada (especially Saskatchewan authors and publishers); rare books and manuscripts; published materials relating to the LGBTQ community; artists’ books; and monographs and articles by university authors, Canadiana, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. See the UASC website for more information about these collecting areas, as well as information about primary source (archival) collections.

  • Materials that help build other special collections across the University Library, including:
    • Historical Textbook Collection (Education and Music Library)
    • Saskatchewan Music Collection (Education and Music Library)
    • Canadian books for children

  • Materials supporting teaching and research that are otherwise difficult to access through regular channels.

  • Materials supporting inclusive collections that are otherwise difficult to acquire.

With the exception of the above focus areas, we are unable to accept:

  • Textbooks
  • Working/office collections
  • Journals and magazines
  • Encyclopedias
